Abstract:
Microorganisms and their fossils are a good and effective indicator in the study of modern and paleostorm deposits. In this paper, the application of microorganisms in the study of marine storm deposition in recent decades at home and abroad has been reviewed. At present, the main research results are still focused on the study of foraminifera and diatom fossils in the paleostorm layer including a few in pollen. The application of microfossils to reveal the frequency of paleostorms has been developed. However, in future it is necessary to improve the reliability, accuracy and precision of paleostorm reconstruction and to explore the correlation between microfossil records and storm intensity. The research of modern storm is slightly inferior, and the research degree is relatively low. Understanding the sedimentary characteristics and features of microorganisms and their formation and preservation mechanism in different sedimentary environments during modern storms will be an important research hotspot and direction in future.
